Four Hospitals Receive Distinguished Site Awards at Annual Partnership Meeting
CEP America named Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in Santa Clara, California the 2011 ED of the Year during their annual Partnership meeting held in Las Vegas. In addition, John Muir Medical Center – Walnut Creek, Mercy Hospital of Folsom, Mercy Medical Center – Roseburg, and San Joaquin Community Hospital were presented with Distinguished Site Awards. CEP America is the leading independent provider of emergency department (ED) management and staffing solutions, wholly owned by its more than 1,100 emergency physician Partners.
Since partnering with CEP America in 2006, Santa Clara Valley Medical Center (SCVMC) has seen its patient volume steadily increase from 90,000 to over 133,000 patient visits annually. Despite the increase in volume, SCVMC saw a significant decrease in time to provider (TTP) of any high volume site during the time period compared – a 34% decrease from 50 minutes to 33 minutes. SCVMC’s left without being seen (LWBS) rate also dropped from 13% to one percent, while maintaining 100% compliance with ED-related CMS core measures.
Each year, CEP America also presents Distinguished Site Awards to sites that have achieved significant operational success over the past year. John Muir Medical Center – Walnut Creek was recognized for its consistently high patient satisfaction scores, despite having undergone an extensive ED remodel. A past recipient of the ED of the Year Award, John Muir – Walnut Creek was recently recognized by HealthGrades as one of the top performing hospitals in the country.
Mercy Hospital of Folsom was named a Distinguished Site for its innovative methods to reduce turnaround time to discharge (TAT-D), resulting in a reduction of nearly twenty minutes. It has the third lowest time to provider of any CEP America site, hovering at around ten minutes; and it is ranked highly for patient satisfaction with both CEP America and Catholic Healthcare West (CHW).
Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg, Oregon was also commended for its low turnaround time to discharge. At 114 minutes, the ED boasts the fourth lowest TAT-D across all CEP America sites. Mercy Medical has also shown tremendous improvement in front-end operations. In 2008, their time to provider was 46 minutes, but this year the ED maintained a TTP of less than twenty minutes. These improvements were achieved by ongoing collaborative efforts hospital-wide.
A member of Adventist Health, San Joaquin Community Hospital partnered with CEP America in January. In a matter of months, San Joaquin saw its time to provider fall from 93 minutes to 30 minutes, and its LWBS rate drop to less than one percent. All of this while seeing a volume increase of over 1,000 additional patients a month.
CEP America is the leading democratic emergency physician group in the US. With more than 1,100 physician Partners at over 80 practice locations across eight states, CEP America cares for over 3.5 million patients annually. CEP America developed and launched the nationally-recognized Rapid Medical Evaluation® (RME) program. With this program sites have, on average, a time to provider wait 20 minutes shorter than the national average.
