California Emergency Physicians Medical
Group (CEP) is the largest provider of physician staffing and
comprehensive management services for Emergency Departments in the state
of California. According to a survey of hospital administrators
done by Modern Healthcare, CEP was the most preferred emergency
physician medical group in California. Founded by career emergency physicians in 1975, CEP is dedicated to providing the best in physician management and
emergency medical care for the patients treated in our client hospitals. With
55 Emergency Departments and 19 ambulatory practices, CEP provides emergency and
unscheduled care to almost 2.5 million patients annually. This represents
approximately 19% of California's annual ED volume.
A Unique Medical Group
CEP is a unique medical group.There are a large number of physicians who have
held leadership positions in our client hospitals and organized medicine.
Five CEP Partners have served as chief of the medical staff at their
practice locations. Six CEP Partners have served as President of the
California Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians. Our
physician Partners are not independent contractors or non-equity employees
and they therefore have an incentive to meet the expectations of the
client hospitals. We have deliberately organized as a general Partnership,
rather than a professional corporation, to best accommodate the needs of all CEP
physicians.
Democratic Ownership
In CEP's broad ownership structure, all Partners have the opportunity to vote on
Partnership affairs and achieve the maximum parity in ownership to every other
CEP Partner. The Partnership culture of a democratic organization
for emergency physicians, dedicated to effective management and
clinical excellence at each of our Emergency Department contracts,
remains unchanged after 30 years.
Local Group Autonomy
Each of our emergency medicine practices is
unique, and the CEP relationship is often transparent to the medical staff and
hospital personnel. Our Partners establish a solid local presence within the
community and retain the best characteristics of the most well-regarded single
site emergency physician groups in the nation's premier hospitals, with one
major difference. CEP medical directors and clinical physicians can
access a large network of management expertise and resources to
support their efforts to deliver the best practices in emergency medicine.

Partners and our client hospitals.
