(April 17, 2003, Modesto, Calif.)—MedAmerica Billing Services, Inc. (MBSI) is pleased to announce that Terrie Avila has been selected as the company’s new Director of Operations. MBSI provides billing, coding and auditing services for California Emergency Physicians Medical Group at over 44 hospitals in California.

In her new position, Ms. Avila will oversee internal operations for the 250 member site support teams in medical billing and coding by maintaining daily contact with the team leaders (Division Managers). Her responsibilities will include defining and executing billing and coding policies, developing and implementing internal processes to ensure personnel effectiveness, and managing accounts receivable. In 1999, Ms. Avila joined MBSI as Director of Human Resources. Ms. Avila brings considerable prior experience in both operations and the health care industry, including eleven years at CIGNA.

MBSI Chief Operating Officer Jimmie Proffitt is confident that MBSI will continue to excel with Ms. Avila in her new position. “We looked both inside and outside of the company and no one could offer as much as Ms. Avila. She brings both healthcare industry expertise as well as in-depth experience working with almost all of our staff. With her dedication and support of our team culture, I believe MBSI is poised to deliver an even-better service to our clients.”

Beginning in 2002, MBSI enhanced its team approach to billing and coding by aligning its Division Managers (DMs) with CEP’s regions. As CEP grew, many of the DMs were overloaded with a large number of sites and thus limited in their ability to tackle site-specific issues like problem payors. Recently, MBSI expanded the number of DMs to reduce the number of sites in each manager’s region. As a result, MBSI has been able to more effectively track and control coding and billing issues at each site.

According to Ms. Avila, MBSI continues to break its previous records for collections. In December 2002, MBSI collected an all-time high of $12,645,016. “My goal is to provide the best service for our clients. I am looking forward to working closely with our Division Managers and CEP’s Regional Directors to improve MBSI’s services at each and every site.”
