CEP Announces New Medical Director at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center Emergency Department

(November 2004, Oakland, Calif.,) -Andres Smith, MD, has accepted the position of Medical Director at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center, Emergency Department. This Emergency Department provides care to more than 41,000 patients each year.
Dr. Smith will be responsible for managing the operations of the department and ensuring the Emergency Department is properly staffed with highly qualified physicians and physician assistants. His ultimate goal is for all patients to be seen in a timely manner and leave with a positive experience. Dr. Smith will implement the Rapid Medical Evaluation (RME) Program. This program allows the treatment process to begin immediately and includes an initial assessment, ordering of lab work and X-rays, and in some cases, rapid discharge –often without utilizing a bed in the Emergency Department.
He received a bachelor of arts degree in Biology from the University of California, San Diego and his medical degree from the University of Illinois in Chicago. Dr. Smith completed his residency in emergency medicine at King Drew Medical Center in Los Angeles. He is a professional member of the American College of Emergency Physicians and the California Medical Association. Dr. Smith has been involved at an international level providing medical lectures to physicians and paramedics in Mexico. He has also been published in Neuroscience.
