(June 2005, Emeryville, California) --California Emergency Physicians (CEP) Medical Group is proud to announce that Kenneth Nakamoto, MD, has accepted the position of Vice President of Medical Affairs (VPMA) at Pomona Valley Hospital. This Emergency Department (ED) provides care to over 55,000 patients each year.
As he winds up his full-time work in the ED, Dr. Nakamoto is working part-time as VPMA. He will assume full-time status as VPMA in July, though he plans to continue working a few shifts in the ED. “Once an ER doc, always an ER doc,” he says. He adds, keeping a few shifts “lets [him] keep in touch with the medical staff and gain first-hand knowledge of ED, hospital and medical staff issues.”
As VPMA, his main function will be to serve as the liaison between the medical staff and administration. He is a resource for the medical staff officers, medical directors, and the chairmen of the hospital departments, and he must maintain active communication between the staff and hospital.
Dr. Nakamoto will oversee the medical staff office, including privileging, credentialing, and proctoring functions. He will also assist in the compliance of the medical staff by-laws and applicable state and federal laws. As part of the hospital’s senior management team, he will also help resolve internal disagreements, and administer quality improvement.
Dr. Nakamoto will also be responsible for supporting the medical library and maintaining accreditation.
”I hope to promote a smooth interface between the medical staff and hospital with new ideas and technological innovations, supported by CEP’s informational resources,” says Dr. Nakamoto.
Dr. Sidney Frank, CEP Regional Director, states, “I am sure that we can all agree having an Emergency Medicine physician in such a position can not only benefit us at this site, but throughout CEP.”
Dr. Nakamoto’s credentials include a bachelor of arts in Zoology/Chemistry from Pomona College and a medical degree from the University of California, San Diego. He completed his residency at Martin Luther King, Jr. Hospital and is a fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians.
