Arrowhead Regional Medical Center Honored by California Association of Public Hospitals

(December 2006, California) – Arrowhead Regional Medical Center’s (ARMC) emergency department (ED), staffed by California Emergency Physicians Medical Group (CEP), has received a California Association of Public Hospitals (CAPH) Management Excellence Award for their impressive performance in improving the evaluation and throughput of patients. The award was presented to ARMC and CEP representatives at CAPH’s annual conference in Marina Del Ray, California, on December 8, 2006.

ARMC, a public, 373-bed hospital, is one of the busiest emergency departments in California, with over 100,000 ED patients treated every year. In 2006, they used the Rapid Medical Evaluation Program© (RME) developed by CEP physicians to drastically reduce wait times and improve patient flow. The patient throughput at this high patient volume ED has become so efficient, that they are setting a new standard for public hospital ED performance, which is even superior to many other non-public hospitals with similar volumes. The RME throughput program has been implemented by CEP in over 40 other public and private hospitals in multiple states with similar success.

ARMC also received a Management Excellence Award Honorable Mention in 2005 for their initial identification and analysis of ED throughput issues prior to launching their RME program.

CAPH is a non-profit trade organization representing California's public hospitals and health systems since 1983. CAPH’s Management Excellence Awards are given to public hospital administrators and leadership staff for advances in process improvement, clinical quality improvement, improvements in chronic disease management, and addressing health care disparities. CAPH’s award program goals are to encourage the sharing of effective strategies, recognize dedicated professionals, showcase creative approaches to health services, and address the healthcare needs of the communities served.
