Site Description
Recognized for its exceptional inpatient and outpatient care as well as for its full range of specialty services, Santa Clara Valley Medical Center (SCVMed.org) cares for thousands of patients, and provides for over a half-million outpatient and emergency visits annually. Santa Clara Valley Medical Center (SCVMC) is the only hospital in Santa Clara County with an open-door policy guaranteeing residents access to needed medical care, regardless of ability to pay. SCVMC is a Level I trauma center, the highest level awarded by the American College of Surgeons, and integrates the following resources: dedicated 2-bed trauma suite and digital imaging suite in the ED; dedicated trauma suite in the OR; CT scanner close to the emergency trauma suite; ultrasound technology in the emergency trauma suite; MRI availability; 3 adult ICUs; pediatric and neonatal ICUs; a regional burn center; rehabilitative spinal cord injury and traumatic brain injury programs; a pediatric rehabilitation center; and a helipad on the roof above the ED. Other specialty services include a diabetes center and a perinatal program. SCVMC is affiliated with nearby Stanford University School of Medicine, and with schools of nursing, allied health professional training, and research centers in the San Francisco Bay Area. SCVMC also enjoys a fine reputation for its own freestanding medical education programs.
