Site Description
A fully accredited teaching hospital, St. Mary's Medical Center was founded in 1857 by the Sisters of Mercy and has maintained a legacy of quality and compassionate care right into the 21st century (StMarysMedicalCenter.org). The Emergency Department has played an integral role in the Medical Center's success though its rapid treatment process, providing patient care within 30 minutes of arrival. Furthermore, through the ED's collaboration with Cardiology, St. Mary's has been designated and has maintained certification as a primary stroke center since 2009. Adjacent to the Richmond, Golden Gate Park, and Haight/Ashbury districts in San Francisco, the ED cares for a diverse patient population in an urban setting.
